The so called virtuous condemn anyone who gives into the temptation of the flesh. They advocate self-control, but anyone with a semblance of experience can state that when the urge hits, it's nearly impossible to ignore, even with the advantage of age or experience.... and this woman had plenty of both. She was in complete control of the situation, and my eyes did not move an inch.
"You should taste your drink. It's better while chilled."
I had not noticed the drinks' delivery, and was astonished to find a chilled, tall glass, filled to brim with a bright orange liquid.
"Go on, take a sip. You'll find it quite refreshing."
My hand wrapped itself around the glass, and I could feel the small droplets of water running down, along my fingers.
I raised the glass to my lips, and tilting it ever so slightly, took a small sip of the liquid. She was right. It was refreshing... to a point. While it was in my mouth, the feeling was similar to velvet. A cold sheet of velvet on my tongue, but no discernible taste. At least until I swallowed it.
I thought my taste buds were going to overload, since every single flavour was triggered almost simultaneously.
Fruits, candies, vegetables and even meat... drinking something that leaves a taste of meat in your mouth is very confusing.
But the surprise did not stop there, and my throat was burning as the liquid made it's way to the stomach.
This beverage was rich in alcohol. I should've taken two small sips at the most. I had a feeling I would not survive the entire glass and still be in full control of my body and mind.
" Good isn't it? It's called "The orange surprise". And it is one of my small yet many contributions to this bar."
I thought about asking her about exactly what she meant, but words never made it out of my lips, which were once again refreshed by my beverage.
I glanced at her drink. It was less than half full... but she couldn't have drank all that by herself. I couldn't remember seeing her raise her glass a single time.
This woman was toying with me, this I knew for certain, and yet, I made no attempt to regain control.
None whatsoever.
