The only sign of civilization was a small wooden cabin close to the train stop, if one could call it that, there was no platform of any kind, just sand.
I jumped down, filling my flip-flops with sand as I landed in the dunes. The heat was intense but tolerable and the cool breeze blowing in from the ocean was more than welcome.
In a cleaning effort, I shook my footwear several times and put them in my backpack. The hot sand burned the soles of my feet.

For a moment I considered burying them in the sand, but decided instead to make a quick run for the cabin's small shadow. It was only when I arrived that the stupidity of my actions became clear, and my feet were paying for it. I had let the pleasure of walking barefooted overcome the instinct of self-preservation. But dwelling on it was of no use since cold sand was already soothing the heat on my lower extremities.
"Good afternoon! Welcome to the beach! May I take your order?"I was leaning against the wooden counter, and it was only when I looked up that I noticed the barman was the same as the trains.
"I'll have a beer please.""Make that two!" Said a tall grey-coloured suit. But even though he was well-dressed, his feet were bare, black shoes over his right shoulder, their laces tied together.
Two beers were placed in front of me, which were paid for by my new friend, even before I could reach for my wallet.
"Thanks."Two beers were placed in front of me, which were paid for by my new friend, even before I could reach for my wallet.
"No worries mate, you get the next one."
I took a small sip and felt relief as the cold liquid travelled to my stomach. The taste lingered on, inciting me to continue... sips turned into gulps, and in a matter of seconds my glass was empty.
"Damn... you sure were thirsty."I called the barman and asked for another one.
